Kindle Paperwhite (12th Gen, 16GB): eBay vs Amazon price

About the Kindle Paperwhite (12th Gen, 16GB)

The 12th-generation Kindle Paperwhite launched in October 2024. Its screen grew to 7 inches, page turns got noticeably quicker, and Amazon rates the battery at up to 12 weeks of reading. It is waterproof to IPX8, charges over USB-C and has 16GB of storage, enough for thousands of books. The base model shows ads on the lock screen unless you pay to remove them.

E-readers age slowly, so a used Paperwhite can be a sensible buy. The catch is that Amazon makes it, sells it and discounts it heavily during Prime Day and holiday sales, which leaves little room for used prices. On eBay, the 2024 model is easy to confuse with the 2021 version, which has a 6.8-inch screen and is worth less.

Where the savings are

Amazon is both the maker and the seller here, so its sale prices usually set the market. If you can wait, buy new during a sale. Buy used only if the listing is well under that price and the screen is clean. Make sure the seller has deregistered the Kindle from their Amazon account. Signature Edition and ad-free versions sell for more.
